Discussible Choices: What Are You Reading?
November 2007

Congratulations to Donna and The Vero Beach Bookies from Vero Beach, Florida, for winning the random drawing for this month's Discussible Book Choice!

We enjoy hearing from book club members and sharing their choices with everyone. Please let us know about your group's discussible choices – you may win a book-related prize for every member of your reading group!

Donna writes, “Your e-mails are so informative, thank you.  My book club, which is called The Vero Beach Bookies, is a group of anywhere between 15 to 34 women, depending on the season.  We have been meeting for six years now and have grown tremendously.  I am an original and have watched it grow from four women to what we have today.  We just finished The Distant Land of my Father and Missing Mom by Joyce Carol Oates.  This month we will be discussing Eat Pray Love.  We will be reading Another Time by Roger Neetz after the Holidays.  As a matter of fact Roger Neetz will be coming to our book club and leading the discussion for us, which will be awesome!”

More Discussible Book Choices

“We just read Middlesex.  Half the group finished it and liked it – the other half was leary of the subject matter.  Of those who read it, they really liked it but thought the end was jammed together, compared to the detailed first 3/4.  There was no clue as to how Cal got his great job with the government, or whatever, and why he didn't get 'the operation'.  Lots of hugely wonderful detail in the first part of the book, lots of research, then, wham, bam, the book maybe was getting too long and the author had to wrap it up ? ? ?”

Karen, The Wichita Falls Book Club, Wichita Falls, TX

And Jane from The Excelsior Library Book Club tells us, “We just read Deborah Woodworth's first book Death of a Winter Shaker.  She came to our library last night and had a wealth of information about the Shakers.  We learned from her book and then learned much more from her.  What a delightful evening!”

Jane, The Excelsior Library Book Club, Excelsior, MN

Finally, Cynthia writes, “For the month of November the Pierce County Book Club will be reading Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn followed by Jon Clinch's authorized sequel entitled, Finn.
