Spotlight Special: Paradise Book Group

We feature this special Spotlight story from Peggy Schrader, whose life and the lives of her book group members were profoundly affected by the Camp Fire that ravaged Paradise, California. A special thanks to Peggy, and continued wishes for the solace that a good book can bring.

On November 8, 2018 the little town of Paradise California woke to a bright orange sky. Right away I knew something wasn’t right. By that evening 27,000 people had been evacuated due to what became known as the Camp Fire.

February 2019 Spotlight: Fact, Faith, and Fiction Book Group

Our February Spotlight Group brings a spiritual touch to their choices!

The Fact, Faith, and Fiction Book Group of Northfield, Minnesota meets monthly in the homes of members. We choose our books as a group three to four months ahead of time. Many are nonfiction, often The Reading Group Choices Spotlight Group for February 2019 is Fact, Faith, and Fictionwith a spiritual bent.

Half of our group is new to the community, while the others are long-term residents of Northfield. It’s a great group that is always respectful of others’ thoughts and opinions. Wonderfully, we all have spouses so we can have couples social events.

January 2019 Spotlight: Circle of Readers

Our January Spotlight Group celebrates its first year!

The Reading Group Choices January Spotlight Group is Circle of ReadersCircle of Readers, our book club, formed a year ago at the Broken Arrow Senior Center in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. We read historical fiction, memoirs, history, and fiction. We meet monthly and have a lively time discussing the books. In December, we had a Book Speed Dating event that was great fun and we all left with new titles to read. Everyone brought four books and we examined one another’s choices and exchanged them, and we enjoyed Christmas cookies as well!

The September Spotlight Group Is…

The Marguerites

The Marguerites all belong to a nonprofit called P.E.O. (philanthropic educational organization) which raises money for women’s education and is a life-long learning group. When the P.E.O. chapter they were in became too large to host meetings in homes, the chapter split in two but still wanted to stay connected, and so a reading group of women from both chapters was born in 2004.

Our July Spotlight Group hails from Granite Bay, California!

Originally known as the Granite Bay Book Club, Sassy Sisters started meeting around January 2000.  They recently decided to call the group “Sassy Sisters” because they’re mostly LDS “sisters” who attend the same church and love to socialize. They meet once a month in a group member’s home and have evolved from having potlucks to eating at a restaurant beforehand or having dessert at the hostess’s home. They read a variety of books, including LDS literature, historical novels, fiction and non-fiction,
