July 2022 Spotlight: Athena Readers Book Club

Our July 2022 Spotlight has used the power of technology to stay connected!

The Athena Readers Book Club started in 2016 at the Johnston Branch of the San Antonio Public Library. The “founding members” voted on a title for the group and started with the Veronica Roth’s Divergent series. Over the years we have enjoyed suspenseful mysteries, gory murder thrillers, a couple inspiring biographies and contemporary fiction. We have been hooked on several authors such as Stephen King,

March 2022 Spotlight: The Telltale Book Club

Our March 2022 Spotlight created a challenge to promote reading among their members!

The Telltale Book Club started meeting in July 2019 with an amazing group of women from Oklahoma. We are a fun and interesting group as many of us are Labor and Delivery/Postpartum nurses. We average 16 participants in our monthly discussions and we meet every 4 weeks.

We have been meeting virtually via Zoom since March 2020. We really miss meeting in-person, but Zoom has provided us the ability to discuss our monthly book,

November 2021 Spotlight: Meg’s Book Group

Our November 2021 Spotlight dedicated their group name to one of their members in her honor

Meg’s Book Group was formed by a group of teachers and other staff from Lincoln Elementary School in Madison, WI, decades ago. Soon, parents wormed their way in and we’ve been meeting steadily ever since with some new members joining while others left. Our group is now 8 regular members mostly in our late 50s and early 60s.

Over the years, we’ve become good friends and share more than just book discussions.

CLAMS stands for “Corte Madera Literary and Munching Society.” We meet in Corte Madera, CA, about a half hour north of the Golden Gate Bridge in Northern CA. We choose our books by submitting suggestions in the fall and we then vote electronically via SurveyMonkey,

September 2021 Spotlight: Good Books Good Company (GBGC)

Our September 2021 Spotlight gets involved in promoting reading across Rhode Island with local events!

GBGC (Good Books Good Company) has 15 active members with on average 8-12 in attendance at our bi-monthly meetings.  The club has been meeting since 2000.  I, Rosanne Trissler (lower far left), joined in 2001 when I came on board as a librarian at La Salle Academy.  This has been a steady group – even with the need to “go virtual” this past year.  June was the first opportunity that we had to reconvene in person at one of our member’s back yard!

July 2021 Spotlight: The Sunday Sleuths Reading Group

Our July 2021 Spotlight specializes in mysteries and invites the author to their meetings!

The Sunday Sleuths Reading Group was formed at Murder on the Beach Mystery Bookstore in 1999. Three members have been with us nonstop since then! The group ranges from 20 people during the winter season, to 5-6 during the summer, and is led by Stephanie Levine. We meet on the third Sunday of each month at 3 pm, and for the last year have been meeting virtually.

We discuss the book from 3-3:30pm,
