July 2018 Spotlight: Sassy Sisters
Our July Spotlight Group hails from Granite Bay, California!
Originally known as the Granite Bay Book Club, Sassy Sisters started meeting around January 2000. They recently decided to call the group “Sassy Sisters” because they’re mostly LDS “sisters” who attend the same church and love to socialize. They meet once a month in a group member’s home and have evolved from having potlucks to eating at a restaurant beforehand or having dessert at the hostess’s home. They read a variety of books, including LDS literature, historical novels, fiction and non-fiction, westerns, sci-fi, educational, and self-help books, and sometimes attend movies based on books they’ve read.
Sassy Sisters is accommodating and flexible. You don’t need to have read the book to attend! It’s an opportunity to share ideas and be friends. Usually in December, the book group has a book exchange of new and gently used books. They wrap each one and include small gifts that complement the theme of the book.
Recently, Sassy Sisters invited Pat Dodge, author of Retail Realities to join them. She told the group about her experiences as a Macy’s personal style consultant and how her book came about. Previous guests have included Joni Hilton, author of Jungle, and Donna Woolfolk Cross, author of Pope Joan (by telephone conference).
Some of this book groups favorite books include QB, My Life Behind the Spiral by Steve Young, Life and Death in Shanghai by Nien Cheng, Destiny of the Republic by Candice Millard, and Delicious by Ruth Reichl.
